1. The defects of worldly
enjoyments
A. –
Human life is a series of experiences whether good are bad.
--These
enjoyments are experienced through senses.
--Senses
get contact with worldly objects and perceive experiences.
WORLDLY
ENJOYMENTS HAVE THE FOLLOWING DEFECTS.
Worldly enjoyments have a beginning and an end.
Anything
that has a beginning has an end, So they are not permanent. They are illusory
and impermanent. Worldly enjoyments do not give permanent peace to individual.
They are riddled with pain.
--Mind
passes through senses and obtains experiences.
--The
five senses always contact with worldly objects and enjoys pancha-tan -matras which
are Sabdha, Sparsa, Rupa, Rasa, and Gandha.
--Each
and every sensory enjoyment belongs to one category which is said as above.
--Though
they are five types of enjoyments they in turn give only two experiences.
--
They are Sukha(Happiness), and Dukha(Unhappiness).
--
The same object which gives happiness in one time doesn’t give happiness forever.
Sometimes itself turns into misery also.
They dissipate one`s energy,
--Individual
craves for one enjoyment or the other continuously.
--
When senses are continuously involved in sensory enjoyment they lost their
vigour. They dissipate one`s energy. Constant sensory enjoyment makes
individual week and feeble. So activity
of mind and senses must be curtailed.
They leave a gnawing sense of incompleteness at the end.
--Worldly
enjoyments are purely temporary enjoyments. They give incomplete happiness. In
the beginning they may be enjoyable but at the end they leave incompleteness.
Hence sensory control is advised.
--They create
attachment
Worldly
enjoyments create attachment. These attachments lead to rebirth. Karma-bondage-birth-again
karma-again bondage and again janma. Likewise the cycle of births ans deaths
continue forever.
